Apprenticeship options at Möhling: Industrial Mechanic specialised in Operating Technology


Industrial mechanics specialised in operating technology ensure the full functionality and operability of plants, machines and equipment. They perform ongoing maintenance work on the shopfloor, but are also entrusted with a variety of further tasks across the company. Their responsibilities encompass inspection, preventive maintenance (servicing) as well as corrective maintenance (repair) of production facilities. Furthermore, they adapt machinery and equipment to new conditions as required. This includes assembly and disassembly of parts and sub-assemblies, troubleshooting as well as the return to service of machinery and equipment following successful functional testing.

Range of tasks and responsibilities (examples)
  • Assembly of parts and dismantling of assemblies
  • Error diagnosis/troubleshooting in the event of a malfunction
  • Safeguarding the proper functionality of machines and equipment
  • Setup, expansion and functional checking of electronic control components
  • Familiarisation with the quality assurance system
  • Performance of preventive maintenance and repair work on machinery and equipment

The apprenticeship programme in a nutshell
  • During the first months of your apprenticeship, you will acquire basic knowledge and skills in the field of metalworking outside the firm
  • In-company vocational training will enable you to obtain comprehensive insight into the remits and range of responsibilities incumbent upon industrial mechanics specialised in operating technology, thus also providing a closer insight into the Möhling company
  • In our Maintenance department, you will contribute to ensuring that the machines and production plants/equipment are properly serviced and ready for operation.
  • In our Production department, you will identify causes of malfunction and perform repair work. Furthermore, you will carry out installation and inspection work, and you will instruct colleagues on the operation of manufacturing equipment.
  • In our Engineering Design department, you will gain an insight into the development, blueprinting, design and configuration of tool parts.
  • In our Toolmaking department, we will familiarise you with the manufacture of new tools and with tool repairs
Minimum school-leaving qualification Above-average lower secondary school diploma (“Hauptschulabschluss”)
