Apprenticeship options at Möhling: Tools Mechanic

Tool mechanics manufacture punching/stamping tools, bending devices, casting moulds or injection moulds for industrial serial production. They perform metalworking operations using a variety of different techniques (such as drilling, milling, hammering) and machines (including CNC machines). In doing so, they meticulously adhere to the dimensions specified in the relevant technical drawing. In order to ensure dimensional workpiece accuracy to narrow tolerances in the micrometre range, they employ high-precision measuring and inspection equipment. Apart from traditional manual working methods, they use CNC machine tools which they can also programme. They assemble individual parts into full-fledged tools and check them for proper functioning. Furthermore, they perform maintenance and repair work on damaged tool components.

Range of tasks and responsibilities (examples)
  • Manufacture of jigs, fixtures and tools
  • Performance of preventive maintenance, repair and modification/conversion work on tools and dies/moulds
  • Operation of CNC machinery
  • Preparation of CAM software for CNC machines
  • Sawing, grinding, turning, screwing, clamping, riveting, gluing and soldering/brazing
  • Verification of the dimensional compliance of workpieces
